Just after the SM North Edsa shooting incident, there another one in SM Pampanga. This really shocked me because the victims are so young. A 13-year-old boy killed his 17-year-old-boyfriend in the chest out of jealousy. He then shot himself in the head. He used a .22 Caliber pistol during the shoot out. According to Colonel Tinio, that palm size pistol is difficult to detect even by metal detectors. It can be bought cheaply around 5,000 php. The two boys wee rush to the hospital but to no avail.
I guess this is a situation where love has gone bad huh?

Witness the Magic of Disney Live! Mickey's Musical Festival
I'm sure everyone loves Disney. Seeing this poster made me reminisce. Let me share with you how Disney has affected my life...

As toddlers, we used to wake up hearing the songs from "Disney Babies Wake Up CD Album". Growing up, we loved watching Mickey and Friends on TV as shown by all the Disney stuffs we had from bed covers to stuff toys.

One of our family tradition when I was a child was to watch "Disney on Ice". We watch it consecutively with all my aunts, uncles and cousins. During the show, we always bought glowing toys and snow cones in Disney mugs. The show is always different and amazing. I can still picture the characters, colored lights, songs and dances and smokes and effects from the shows we watched.

Disney has left me so many magical memories. I don't think my life would ever be the same without it.
I'm so glad the Disney continues to create magical moments for everyone. In fact, because my aunt will be in Greece for the Greece Holidays, I'll be bringing my nephew to watch Disney Live! Mickey's Musical Festival. Mickey Mouse and friends: Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy will be performing a music mash-up. There will be guests from the blockbuster movies: Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story. Our favorite songs and music will be presented with a twist as they are remixed to rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, jazz and country, among other jams! So don't miss out the chance of sharing a rare and unforgettable fun, entertaining and magical moment that you can share with your family.

The Haunted TV Series by Animal Planet
My mom and I love to watch paranormal movies and TV series so we decided to watch the haunted. We watch these kind of films during the night while eating my specialty: microwave popcorn.
The haunted was not the usual paranomal TV series. Since it is produced by animal planet, it obviously involves animals. While watching this series, it exposed that animals could actually sense paranomal activities. People usually think that only cats can see spirits, well through the series, we realized that even dogs can sense them too. Also it was a shocking revelation that, animals have spirits too. They can also haunt us. Amazing right?
This is definitely worth watching if you are curious about the paranomal side. It's an eye-opener and also something that can give you goosebumps as you watch. Naturally, I recommend it to people like us who loves to watch these type of shows. If you've watched this, let us know what you think.

Asian Drama Review: Heartstrings a.k.a You've Fallen For Me
"Heartstrings" also called "You've Fallen For Me" is a recent Korean Drama Produces by MBC. It is composed of 15 episodes of drama and music. The main casts are Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin-hye. Familiar pairing? The two were also paired in 2009 for SBS's drama "You're Beautiful".
By watching "You're Beautiful" before this, I could tell that there are similarities in their role there and here. Jung Yong Hwa played as Lee Shin who is also the lead singer in a band in this drama. As expected, his acting seemed natural and appealing to the audience. His musical performance is always fun to watch. Park Shin-hye role is the gullible Lee Gyu Won. The two have chemistry and together they bring life to the drama.
The plot is okay. It was nothing special but the all the characters made it fun to watch. The entire drama doesn't revolve around the two main casts, the rest of the stars also have their own stories and a share in the spotlight.
Through this drama, I was able to appreciate traditional Korean music. I admire how Korea preserves its culture. I also loved the concept of clashing Modern and Traditional music because I believe that music is universal.=)
Overall, I recommend you to watch this Korean Drama. It's inspirational, entertaining and naturally romantic.

Movie Review: Charlie St. Cloud
I've recently just watched Charlie St. Cloud. It is a movie adaptation of a fictional novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud" by Ben Sherwood. The movie drew attention because its a Romantic Drama starring Zac Efron. Did he pull it off in this movie?
It is a fictional story about a boy named Charlie St. Cloud who faces difficulty in letting go of the death of his younger brother and meets a girl who wants him to move on. Its about brotherhood and love. The film is a bit entertaining but it could have been presented better. Some of the parts in the drama lacked impact. The plot was too predictable. On the other hand, Zac Efron played well in his overly dramatic role in the movie.
Overall, the movie was a simple drama with no sparks. It was good but nothing spectacular. Worth the watch if you want to see the the charming Zac Efron in grief.

Suplado Tips from Stanley Chi because Suplado is the New Sexy
I'm the type of person who has difficulty in comprehending jokes from magazine or sometimes movies. Naturally, I'm not that fond of comedies so its the first time I've heard of Stanley Chi and his book "Suplado Tips".
When you hear "Suplado", there is a negative connotation to it right? Like when you don't notice your friend waving to you at a mall, you'll hear them say "Hoy! Suplado!" By that, you'll have an immediate defensive reaction and will reply "Hindi ah!"
So when I heard a booked named "Suplado Tips" being a best-seller, I became curious that I had to search the book store for it. I'm so glad I did because I had the WRONG idea. The book explains how being a "Suplado" can help change your life. It teaches you to be witty at times when being a "Suplado" becomes a necessity. That's right being a "Suplado" is not a full time job but it may be helpful at times. A perfect example is when a guy wants to impress a woman. I'm sure most of us girls will agree that we don't like easy guys. With the "Suplado Tips" from Stanley Chi, I'm sure you can make an impression.
This reminds me of my childhood. When I was young, I was always teased. You'd be surprised at how many nicknames I had and how many boys I was teased with. Years later, I asked them seriously, "Why me? Why was I always the one being teased?" They all said, "Because you're too nice. Hindi ka kasi napipikon eh! (you never get irritated)" So lesson learned. Being nice is good but being too nice is NOT! A person should be balanced in everything.
Stanley Chi is a genius for figuring that being a "Suplado" is actually the new sexy. It takes wit to pull off Suplado stunts. We're so lucky that he has his tips ready to be read. Here's a few of his Suplado lines that is sure to leave the other person speechless.=p
"Pa-English English ka pa, Sipain kita dyan eh!"
Haha! Funny but it works right?
His book is a huge success that he is joining Iya Villania and Sam Milby as endorsers of Unisilver time. He's very own "Suplado Watch" will be releasing this August. So check out his new book and you can also catch him over the Suplado Show at www.pinoytuner.com

Congratulations to Koko Pimentel Jr. on his proclamation as senator
Although I'm not the much interested in politics, I would like to congratulate my professor for his proclamation as senator, a position he rightfully deserves.
I first met him as my professor in Statutory Construction. It was an early morning class during Saturdays. He is a great professor. He taught us a lot even beyond the rules and codes. He was also my professor in Legal Ethics. Based on his style of teaching, I observed that him as strict and righteous person. He always taught us that a life of a lawyer should be
I recall one time my classmates asked him if he wanted to run again for election. He told us since he already lost, he won't run anymore. He said he would rather teach. In fact, he still teaches now.
I'm glad that the truth was finally unveiled that he had 257,000 votes more than Zubiri. I guess we all know how disheartening it is to lose by cheatery. This is a sign of Justice prevailing in the Philippines. I hope more Justice will prevail in the future.

Movie Review: Cowboy and Aliens (plus Hidden Spoilers)
By the sound of the title "Cowboys and Aliens", I had the impression that this movie wants to be different from all the other alien films out there. At first it may sound ridiculous. But if you think about it aren't aliens are fictional in the first place? I am really curious whether they could pull it off or not so I just had to watch it.
The movie can be best enjoyed by keeping your mind open and using your imagination. If you put a blind eye and on some of the illogical scenes and plot holes, the movie can be fun and entertaining. But being directed by Jon Favreau, I was disappointed by the plot.
Some illogical scenes in white ink:
There was a lot of action in this movie but I'd say it was not enough to make the movie exciting. A lot of gunshots were made but of course, we want to see something more than that. The effects were good but not that much was needed for the movie. I appreciated that there were bits of humor, romance and drama mixed in. The presentation of the alien was not that different from other movies but it was okay.
Spoiler alert in white ink: I'd like to note that the indians were discredited in this movie.=p
Overall, I'd say its a so-so movie. It's okay to watch to pass some time or if you're curious on how the movie goes. It is passable but not impressive.

The issue on Christopher Lao: A joke gone overboard?
Facebook, twitter, blogs and day-to day conversations discussed and gossiped about the mistake of Christopher Lao as his car floats in the middle of a flooded street.
I became curious so I also watched the video. Sure it was funny at first but when people make a fan page or even Youtube videos about it (see video below), don't you think it has gone overboard?
I did my research and it turns out Christopher Lao is a UP law summa cum laude. He is even going to take his bar exam this year and a bar bet too. That fact alone made me realize that I could never have the right to make fun of the guy and even felt sorry for laughing at it. The guy just made a mistake. Let's all move on before we get the last laugh right?
Come to think of it. I've never imagine a joke like this would be as viral as scandals. Does this mean that Filipinos care a lot about humility or intelligence?

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger
When we were little, we used to watch Captain America in cartoons. As I grew older, Captain America became less appealing to me as more interesting cartoon superheroes were being promoted.
Until this movie, I've never heard of Captain America for a long time so I was really curious how this movie "Captain America: The First Avenger" would turn out.
It turned out that there is a deeper story to Captain America than I remembered. Through this movie, I was able to appreciate his characteristics. I loved how it was presented in the movie. The pacing and development was perfect. The effects were pretty good. The film had a good share of action. It also had some humor mixed it.
Chris Evans looked really cool and charismatic in the movie. He was a perfect portrayal of Captain America. He looked really well in the Captain America costume. I originally though it would be the plain and boring but it was presented in the movie as a cool upgrade from the classic form.
As expected from a Marvel Movie, Stan Lee once again playing a cameo role and a post-credit scene. This time Stan Lee has a one-liner dialogue. Did you notice him at the scene? The post-credit teaser was amazing! I can't wait for the next marvel film! How about you?
One Man Disney By Nick Pitera's
I've always loved Disney films ever since I was young. What drew me to Disney is their amazing music. When I discovered this video in YouTube, I was really impressed with Nick Pitera. He could do all voices male or female, villain or hero and high pitch or low pitch.
Watch it! Let me know what you guys think.

Korean Drama Review: City Hunter
City Hunter is an action and romance drama produced by SBS. It has 20 episodes in total.
At first glance this drama is mainly dependent on the main actor playing city hunter. They did the right move in picking Lee Min-Ho for the job. He's good looks and good acting carried the drama all the way. I've seen him in Korean dramas before such as Personal Taste and Boys over Flowers and his acting never disappoints. He looks really cool in his black jacket don't you think?
There was a good chemistry between Lee Min-Ho and Park Min-Young. Even though the drama was mainly full of action and suspense, there was also romance mixed in. You could feel the emotions between the two stars despite the lack of romantic scenes like typical dramas.
This drama as the action, mystery and suspense that can keep you glued on your TV screens. It also makes viewers become aware of politics.
Lee Jun-Hyuk and the other actors and actresses also did well in playing their parts. The flow of the drama is perfect. The development of each character is good. It also teaches a lesson on revenge, patience, determination and forgiveness.

Our Incubus Live In Manila Experience (pics + video)
A few days ago, I mentioned Incubus performing live here in Manila (see separate entry) Our excitement was not wasted. The concert was a blast!
We only managed to get Upper Box B tickets so we had to be early. I'm so guilty that I had to cut a really good and fun class, my favorite subject "Corporate Law" with my favorite professor, just to grab a chance to have good seats. But when we arrived, the place was already packed so we had to choose either to stand up and have a good view or seat down with an awful view. Thinking that we could seat as much as we want anytime but to watch one of my favorite bands play live is rare, we choose to stand up.
The show started at 8 p.m. with "Franco" playing around five songs for the opening performance. They're a "superband" here in the Philippines. Most of them are Cebuanos. Although I'm not familiar with their songs, they did a pretty good job entertaining people who are eager to watch Incubus.
After setting up the stage at around 9:20 p.m., the lights closed and the crowds cheered for Incubus' introduction song, Megalomaniac.
From the first song until the last, the voice of the crowd singing, clapping and cheering filled the stadium. I didn't even notice I stood for more than an hour. I'm so glad they played all my favorite songs. My friends were wondering why the song "Stellar" wasn't played. Here is the song list during the show:
(For more videos check us out at Youtube)
1. Megalomaniac
2. Wish You Were Here
3. Consequence
4. Pardon Me
5. Anna Molly
6. Love Hurts
7. Circles
8. Look Alive
9. Promises, promises
10. The Warmth
11. Drive
12. Sick Sad, Little World
13. Isadore
14. Glass
15. Talk Shows on Mute
16. Adolescents
17. Crow

After these, the lights went off. People shouted "We want more" for a few minutes. The sound was almost deafening. As expected, they came back to play more songs. I'm surprised they even sang "I Miss You". Its been a long time since I heard that song again. But still as meaningful.=) They also performed "Wolves" and "Nice to Know You".
They performed so well, its really difficult to pick which song was the best for the night. I enjoyed Drive, Promises, Promises and Wish You Here the most.
After the show Oracare toothpaste and mouthwash were being distributed. There was also a Minute Maid and Coke Zero booth. I chose Minute Maid over Coke Zero liked most people did. Perhaps, we were all health-conscious and preferred a no preservative drink?
Overall, definitely worth the watch. I missed their concert last 2008, so I'm really glad I gotthe opportunity this time around. I bet this time around is better since they had more songs to offer. One of the best concerts ever!

Korean Drama Review: Lie to Me
Lie to me is a romantic-comedy korean drama produced by SBS. It totals 16 episodes. But are all those episodes worth watching? I think not.
Usually, a plot has twists and turns to captivate its audience. However, around half of the 16 episodes is full of mushiness and romantic scenes which made it look a bit dragging to me. The plot is so simple and yet the series was long.
The actresses and actors are good in acting. I loved Kang Ji-Hwan (as Hyun Ki-Joon) from Hong Gil Dong and Yoon Eun-Hye (Kong Ah-Jung) from Personal Taste so I had high expectations for this drama. Overall, the actors and actresses skill did doesn't compensate for the lack of creativity in the plot and presentation. But they did improve it.
I don't recommend this unless you're a fan of the stars. But you might like this is you want to admire the cuteness and sweetness of others like the casts for long hours. That's what the entire drama is all about period.

Classes Suspension for July 27 in NCR due to Typhoon Juaning
According to DepEd Classes are suspended for elementary and high school. But the CHED is still yet to announce any suspension for College level. As per CHED guidelines, they will not suspend unless it is signal number 3. But school administrators of course have the option to suspend.
On the other hand, DOST-PAGASA has recommended the suspension of classes in the tertiary level.
Hope it won't be too flooded for the working class and college and graduate students tomorrow. My sister is still hoping for an announcement though.
Update: All classes in tertiary level in NCR are also suspended as per Exec. Secretary

Update: All classes in tertiary level in NCR are also suspended as per Exec. Secretary

Just felt the 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake here in Luzon July 26,2011 1:15 a.m.
At around, 1 a.m. I felt the ground shaking. I though I was just dizzy from studying too long. But then our Maynah bird was shouting and flattering its wings and our chimes made their tingling sound. The earthquake lasted for about 5 seconds.

I checked the internet and found out it was only a 5.9 magnitude. It was only around 3 magnitude here in Manila. Thank you Lord. Everyone is sleeping here and no one could have prepared for a higher magnitude during early hours. Hope everyone is safe and sound. How about you? Did you feel it too?
My expectations from President Noynoy's SONA before and now.
Last year, president Noynoy made the following promises:
- Stop corruption beginning with the establishment of the Truth Commission
- Public-Private Partnerships to promote and improve education, infrastructure, health, military and police needs and more to improve the economy and tourism.
- Build-Operate-Transfer to fasten the process of registration with the DTI to create more jobs.
- Build more classrooms
- Cover more masses who are in need of Philhealth
- Anti-Trust Law to stop monopolies and promote the growth of Small- at Medium-scale Enterprises
- Pass the Whistleblower’s Bill and strengthen the Witness Protection Program to the culture of being threatened
- Negotiate with the MILF
This year he his SONA mentions:
- his dedication in stopping "wang-wang" which is a sign of abuse of power
- improvement in our stock market as a sign of good business and economy
- that taxes are guaranteed to benefit the public
- improvement in the agriculture sector having produced 15.6% more rice locally
- lot allocation to policemen
- our "Hamilton Class Cutter" vessel and the possibilities of acquiring more helicopters, patrol crafts and weaponry in the future
- large drop in motorcycle and car thefts
- Drop from 8% (April 2010) to 7.2% (April 2011) in unemployment rate with 1,004,000 jobs created last year
- More Phil-health-deserving beneficiaries
- Stopping corruption in ARMM
- Studying the possibilities of Tree planting stewardship to solve the problems with flooding
- DOST and UP have even teamed up to develop a prototype monorail system
- aim:
- to give due compensation to the victims of Martial Law
- to grant our house help the salaries and benefits that they deserve
- to improve the system that awards pensions to our retired soldiers.
- to support the expansion of the scope of scholarships granted by DOST to outstanding yet underprivileged students
- the advancement of universal quality healthcare
- responsible management of the environment
- formation of facilities that will ensure the safety of our citizens during times of great need and calamity
- development of BuCor, NBI, NEA, and PTV 4
I was expecting that he would update us on the improvement in classrooms. I believe that education is essential to the progress of our country. Has any one been watching the news? You'd notice that quite often, poor students are being featured. Sometimes the news would show students having their classes in worn down tents which leaked during rainy days. They would show teachers who have to travel and hike before reaching schools. They would show overcrowded classrooms where kids were forced to stand the heat and be cramp like a can of sardines. Moreover, I'd like to see more infrastructures built that would benefit the public instead of purchasing a new vessel. He still has a lot of time during his term so I'm still hoping that there will be more tangible proofs in the future. How about you? Did you get what you expected?
Based on the ratings everything has improved. But how do they perform these surveys? Do we know? Like when they consider a person poor on the basis of earning 45 pesos a day. Is that really enough to cover a persons daily expenses? I've learned in our statistics class that ratings could easily be modified to mislead people. Is that the case here? You tell me.
