Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger

When we were little, we used to watch Captain America in cartoons.  As I grew older, Captain America became less appealing to me as more interesting cartoon superheroes were being promoted.

Until this movie, I've never heard of Captain America for a long time so I was really curious how this movie   "Captain America: The First Avenger" would turn out.

It turned out that there is a deeper story to Captain America than I remembered.  Through this movie, I was able to appreciate his characteristics.  I loved how it was presented in the movie.  The pacing and development was perfect.  The effects were pretty good.  The film had a good share of action.  It also had some humor mixed it.

Chris Evans looked really cool and charismatic in the movie.  He was a perfect portrayal of Captain America.  He looked really well in the Captain America costume.  I originally though it would be the plain and boring but it was presented in the movie as a cool upgrade from the classic form.

As expected from a Marvel Movie, Stan Lee once again playing a cameo role and a post-credit scene.  This time Stan Lee has a one-liner dialogue.  Did you notice him at the scene?  The post-credit teaser was amazing!  I can't wait for the next marvel film!  How about you?

Captain America is my patriotic idol

Captain America named Steve Rogers used to be just an ordinary human in poor shape.  Because of his will and determination to serve his country, he was brave enough to agree to be tested in a top-secret defense project and become the subject for the Super Soldier Serum.
Once he underwent physical transformation and became strong, he fought for his country.  He was ready for combat just with his mighty shield.  I just love it when he makes his brave stance with his shield.  I could feel his courage to go against anything.

Captain America is my

Intelligent
  • He is a good tactician and strategist.  He is not only powerful but he uses his mind in his missions.
Determined
  • He is brave and determined.  He goes to his battles with courage and determination.
Outstanding
  • He is an outstanding fighter who is excellent with martial arts and can aim perfectly with his shield.
Leader
  • He is a good leader and commander.
So when I heard a Captain America movie will soon to be shown entitled "Captain America – The First Avenger"  I was so excited.  Check out the trailer below.  Really cool!

Nuffnang Transformer's 3 Movie Event

We were fortunate to be one of 100 bloggers who were invited by Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL to watch Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon at Shang Cineplex 3.

Registration
The call time was at 6: 00 p.m.but we arrived the venue a little bit late because we had to purchase some food and drinks first.  When we arrived, the entire floor was crowded with bloggers, a lot of whom I've looked up to.  I went to the registration area where I was given a name tag and  a Free PLDT ID lace.
Who's this? Wouldn't want to spoil;)
Bumble Bee
Optimus Prime
We looked around.  We were only expecting to watch a movie but it was like a cocktail party.  Blogges were eating, drinking and chatting with each other.   Iced Tea was being served together with mini carrot cakes.  Both the ice tea and carrot cakes tasted good!  The photo booth had a long line so we opt not to have one.  There were cool Transformers mascots roaming around the area.   My favorite characters Optimus  Prime and Bumble Bee was there.  Nice!

Mini Carrot Cakes Anyone?
Blockbuster Line for the Photobooth
At around 7:00 p.m., we were allowed to entered the movie area.   It was our first time to watch a movie at the Shang Cineplex.  We looked around and saw the chairs all labelled either: "Reserved for Nuffnang" or "PLDT".  While people were searching for their seats, we were told to avoid the reserved seats for the VIPs so we complied.   Not a bother because the whole place was huge and there were only a few of us.

Once everyone was seated comfortably (yet there were so many vacant seats still), the host introduced himself, gave a brief talk about PLDT and then awarded the three most creative blog entries for the PLDT myDSL’s Internet to Sawa TRANSFORMS the Internet Experience! contest.  There was a trivia portion where 5 prizes were at stake.  Too bad we didn't win any.=(
The movie soon begun, it was awesome!  Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon was a blast! (See separate entry)  It lasted around 2 and 35 minutes.
Overall, the experience was really something.  The movie invite itself was awesome enough.  But they didn't stop there.  They even offered free-for-all photo booth, great-tasting drinks and food, one-on-one with cool Transformers mascots and lots of prizes.  What can you ask for right?  Everything was well-organized and laid out.  It was a great event.  Thank you Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL you guys sure know how to host.  Two thumbs up! =)

Movie Review: Life as We Know It Movie

Life as We Know It is a romantic comedy starring Katherine Heigl as Holly Berenson and Josh Duhamel as Eric Messer.  The story revolves around the two main casts as they are force to handle the responsibilities of taking care of an orphan girl.  They have to cooperate with each other despite their conflicting personalities.

The chemistry of the casts is pretty good.  I liked how the plot went.  Although it was quite predictable, it was still very fun to watch.

This movie is not the typical romantic comedy.  It give us a glance of the hardships of parenting, the dedication required for work, loyalty to friendship and more.

The show was realistic because life may really go beyond our control and yet we have to face it.  But we always have a choice.  Every choice, of course, will have its consequences.

Watching this certifies my belief that it is better not to have kids if you can't afford it yet or can't dedicate the time to raise one.  So if I were to assess myself, the chances are almost nil=)

Movie Review: Insidious

Who could forget watching their first horror film?  It could have even scarred us.  But then again, there are some who love watching them.  If you're one them, how could you resist Insidious with the dream team of horror film makers such as James Wan from Saw and Oren Peli from Paranormal Activity.

To start the movie off, the film tried to set the movie pace into a slow yet scary way. You might think that its your same old ordinary horror movie with its big old haunted house and a new family moving but think again.

For starters, the movie had no gore or blood in it.  A bit surprising knowing that James Wan was included in the makers huh?  The movie started off pretty good.  It made use of the slowly but surely means of making everyone scared.   I even saw 2 girls in the far front move out from their solitary seats to a much more crowded area.  I thought at first it tried too hard to scare everyone.   But the scare built up was just right to make the movie work.

It scared me enough to meet my expectation.  However, the story was not that good.   The ending left a lot of unanswered questions so there's a lot to ponder on still.  Overall, the movie was good and worth the money.  If you're in the mood to watch something scary then this is the movie for you.
