Polanie - Polanie (67 polish garage, psych beat - FLAC)

Only album by the excellent Polish Beat group Polanie founded and led by organist Wieslaw Bernolak, which also included guitarist / vocalist Piotr Pulawski, saxophonist Wlodzimierz Wander, bassist Zbigniew Bernolak and drummer Andrzej Nebeski.



Founded by members of two other famous Polish Beat groups: Niebiesko-Czarni and Czerwono-Czarni, they were the first Polish super-group.



They played superb original material (sung in Polish) as well as covers of then contemporary international material (sung in English) and displayed an incredibly high level of musicianship, what was completely in par with their British or US counterparts.



They were largely modeled after The Animals, which they supported during the group's tour of Poland, using the same organ / guitar Bluesy sound.



The lead singer had almost no foreign accent and their interpretations of songs by British groups sound as good as the originals, if not better.



In retrospect this is one of the most important albums in the Polish Rock history and still sounds great after all these years.



This new edition includes also the only EP released by the group, which is an extremely rare collectors' item.

Shadows Of Knight - Raw 'N Alive At The Cellar, Chicago 1966! (us garage and psychedelic rock, sundazed release - MP3 320K and FLAC)

This is one of the very few live garage band tapes from the mid-'60s of relatively decent sound quality (considering the standards of the era).



The song selection of this set should also please fans of one of the most famed '60s garage bands, captured here at a club in their home turf of Chicago in December 1966.



The 13 songs include live versions of many of the tunes from their first (and best) album, as well as a six-minute workout of their lone national hit "Gloria" and a couple of Solomon Burke covers.

However, it's not essential if you already have the original albums, or the fine best-of compilation released in the U.K. on Edsel, Gee-El-O-Are-I-Ay.



These versions are very close in arrangement to the officially released ones, but the performance is less accomplished, as it were, and the sound quality worse.



An interesting artifact that nevertheless has little appeal beyond '60s garage collector circles, although the very brief quotes from the Mothers of Invention's "Help I'm A Rock" are most curious and unexpected. (by Richie Unterberger from amg)

The Open Mind - The Open Mind (1969 uk great psychedelic and heavy psych included rare 04 tracks from 45' singles releases - MP3 320K and FLAC)

The band was formed in the mid 1960s by four musicians from Putney, South London. Initially named The Drag Set, they released a little-known single in February 1967, "Day and Night"/"Get Out of My Way".

Shortly thereafter, they changed their name to The Open Mind and in July 1969 released a self-titled LP which has since become a highly sought-after collectible. This band produced one of the finest UK psychedelic albums, which is excellent throughout and hardly contains a bad track. The music is characterised by some particularly strong psychedelic guitar work and good vocals.

It's impossible really to pull-out particular tracks as highlights - they're almost all equally good. Fortunately this album was re-released and this has made this classic piece of 60’s Freakbeat much more accessible to collectors of 60’s psychedelia.

The reissue includes their second rare 45 release, which unlike the first wasn't taken from the album and is superb. A blistering 45 with tasty psychedelic fuzz guitar work.

The band, however, is best known for its druggy August 1969 single, "Magic Potion", which did not appear on the album but included in this CD release.

Crazed and hilarious acid exploitation album that goes far out enough to become genuinely psychy, like a second tier Deep.

One part is cheesy garage psych including the classic "Play your game", the other is 'meditation' featuring strange fairytales, Hare Krishna chanting, and more.

The short spoken segment on Pebbles vol 3 that's puzzled many comes from this album. A Canadian mono release exists (review by Andersson Christer - amazon.com)

The Outsiders - C.Q. (1968 netherlands psychedelic rock with garage touches - MP3 320K and FLAC)

C.Q. (Seek You) packs a huge punch straight off. Misfit is a fucking sledge hammer.

The Outsiders were pretty well unknown in the states when they released their 3rd LP, and some of that had to do with them being from the Netherlands.

They are not to be confused with the other, American, Outsiders of the blazingly hot Nuggets track Time Won’t Let Me.

C.Q. is thoroughly psychedelic however, and a must own for fans of the genre. It almost sounds like S.F. Sorrow at times, but sometimes you’d be surprised that this wasn’t recorded at CBGBs in the late 70s.

I’d even say The Outsiders ought to have some credit in the punk sound with this record. Seems their shows had the punk sensibility going on around then.

Out of the many gems on this one, Prison Song is a necessary listen, a really dramatic story-piece that I would kill to see performed live.

Apparently, it’s included as a twofer with their album Relax, which is a shame because C.Q. deserves its own packaging, especially with that singular cover art.
