A friend inform me of a low profile FREE fun run called "Run for Fun Lung". (I have no idea where she saw it but I glad she did!) It is an advocacy for "Healthy lungs away from smoke" because today is "The World No Tobacco Day". Here are the details:
When: May 29, 2011 Time: 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Venue: CCP Grounds, Pasay City
We were told that only the first 1,500 early registrants are able to avail of the FREE singlet while the rest can still walk-in and be given a race bib. We were not able to register early but because we really support the campaign Kurt and I went there to participate.
We arrived the venue at around 4 a.m. There were tents for the baggage counter, early registrants, late registrants, walk-ins, organizers and Facebook and email registrants. There were also portalets which were clean with water and napkins too. During that time, it was still dark and there were a few registrants. However, we spent around 30 minutes on the "Facebook and email registrants" because the aged woman in charge was confused already. The people ahead of us were 18 in total and the next one who got in between us were 8. She had to attend to their singlets and list down the bibs.

The colors of singlets available were pink, dark blue, blue green, jade green, pink, yellow and white. I chose pink while Kurt chose his dark blue singlet. We signed up for 5k but we only found our before the start of the race did we find out that our blue race bibs were for 3k. While waiting for the race to start, we looked at the boards were the route was posted.

Before the race started, the emcee introduced the organizers and they gave their speeches. A runner priest also talked about his brother who died from cancer because of smoking. He said that they currently have an on-going case against Philip Morris. Then he recited a prayer for the cause.

Now for the side track, nothing much to see here. Of course I'm kidding!=p The Miss Earth Candidates were introduced to the stage and Miss Fil. USA East Coast gave her short speech. (see separate photoblog entry for more photos)
Two women from Slimmers World Adriatico branch were called for the warm up exercises. They showed the steps (see video below) while the Miss Earth Candidates supported as back up dancers. Some people danced, some wanted to dance but were ashamed and others were happily watching the dance. The same procedure was done for the stretching exercise. The crowd especially the men applaud and cheered the beautiful and sexy ladies. (Kurt said he just found it funny that people were ashamed to dance and the trainers reaction to it that's why he had a wide smile all over his face until the end of the program=D)
When the race started, I was glad to have picked 3k because I was not in my best condition. I could not identify which part near my stomach became painful. I also found it hard to catch my breathe that I became dizzy. It was just like when I started my training. I never understood why though. Do you?
10K Start Off
Kurt finished when the timer was at around 14 minutes while I finished at around 30 minutes. Upon reaching the finish line, the 3K line was long. The organizers had to collect our stubs with numbers matching our race bibs one at a time. Perhaps, they will use that to identify our rankings since there were no time chips.
The race was well organized. There were race marshals in neon yellow green Tech shirts that guided every corners and traffics every intersection. There were also way points. There were fast-refilling water stations. Straw loops were given per round in different colors each. Although, the route involved cars passing through, it was not much of a hindrance because of the marshals assistance.

After the race, there was a Unilab bus for a FREE body examination. There were several sponsor booths but only the "Livercaire Plus" booth gave away FREEbies such as ice cold mineral water, ice cold wet face towels with menthol and "Livercare Livercaire Plus" samples. Two thumbs up for them!=) I'm not sure what the other booths were but there were runners sitting at their area. The registration booth also gave away the extra pink and yellow singlets which ran out quickly. The organizers booth gave away FREE foldable fans.

There was a mascot roaming around having pictures with the kids. A guy in Zorro costume and holding a flag was also present. The Miss Earth Candidates had a few pictures with the 3k Finishers and then left.

There were donation boxes at the organizers box so Kurt and I decided to donate. Because the event was organized and they had a good cause. We donated 50 php each and were surprised when we were given Slimmer's World 1,500 php gift certificates for it.

We were so tired that we did not wait for the winners to be announced. It was already 7:30 a.m. which means we were there for almost 4 hours already. We went home satisfied. It felt that instead of supporting, we were mutually benefited too.

A few days ago, I wrote about CBTL's Espresso & Cream Ice Blended Open House (see separate entry). The promo was from 10 a.m to 12 n.n. We arrived at CBTL Robinsons Place at around 11:50 a.m. There is a poster of the CBTL's Espresso & Cream Ice Blended Open House outside and beside the counter.
There were no lines when we came in. (Unlike the last month's blockbuster line during the 50% Starbucks promo which we gave up on=p) The cashier asked us for our order and then I told her we were for the open house. She asked how many and if we'd like it with whip cream or coffee jelly (add 30 php). I said with whip cream only. With all smiles, she asked for my name and issued our receipt. I actually thought that there is a charge for the whip cream but it turns out its free too.=)
We sat while waiting for our order. We noticed that despite having an open house and FREE coffee, there were many vacant tables. I browsed the crowd and only found a few availing it. There were empty ones left at vacant tables.
After around 5 minutes, my name was called and we got our order and left. I noticed that people may differ in the way they enjoy their ice coffee with whipped cream. For me, I sip the coffee first before mixing it with whip cream to appreciate its full flavor.
While sipping, I had a random thought. Cold drinks are more difficult to formulate than hot drinks because if its hot, the drinker can just add more cream or sugar as much as he pleases. But with cold drink, you can't adjust it once it has been served. With each person, having their own taste preferences, it may not please everybody.
This coffee with or without whipped cream is my type of coffee! This is what I expect from an espresso. The coffee is aromatic, thick and strong. One sip will bring you bitter sweet goodness that lingers for a few minutes. My family and Kurt loved it too! Do you love this coffee too?

The strength and character of Tim Buckley's tenor - soaring yet delicate - was already a force to be reckoned with in 1966 when he recorded his self-titled debut for Elektra Records at the tender age of 19.
It was also to be the only constant during the evolution that marked the singer-songwriter's career before his untimely death nine years later.
Rhino Handmade retraces the first steps of Buckley's uncompromising musical journey with a two-disc set that includes both the stereo and mono versions of his debut.
The second disc contains nearly two dozen unreleased recordings Buckley made in 1965 with The Bohemians and in 1966 with frequent songwriting partner Larry Beckett.
Buckley recorded the album's twelve songs in Los Angeles with the team behind The Doors - producer Paul Rothchild and engineer Bruce Botnick.
He was backed in the studio by guitarist and longtime collaborator Lee Underwood, bassist James Fielder, and Mothers Of Invention drummer Billy Mundi.
Van Dyke Parks, who had spent much of that summer collaborating with Beach Boy Brian Wilson on the legendary Smile album, was brought in to overdub keyboards, and frequent Phil Spector sidekick Jack Nitzsche contributed string arrangements.
The DELUXE EDITION features both the stereo and mono mixes of the album, which contains several of Buckley’s early classics, including the singles Wings and Arent You The Girl.
The music on the second disc has remained unreleased until now and provides an unparalleled insight into Buckley’s early development.
It opens with twelve songs he recorded in November 1965 with The Bohemians, a group he formed in high school with Fielder, Beckett, and guitarist Brian Hartzler.
Recorded live in an Anaheim studio, the originals include early versions of She Is and It Happens Every Time - two tracks that later appeared on Buckley’s debut.
The session also yielded rockers like Put You Down and Come On Over and the ballads Call Me If You Do and No More.
The nine songs that make up the second half of the disc were recorded shortly before the sessions for Tim Buckley and feature Buckley singing and playing acoustic guitar with Beckett, who recites poetry to Buckley’s guitar on two tracks: Found At The Scene Of A Rendezvous That Failed and Birth Day.
The home recording captures versions of the album tracks: She Is, Arent You The Girl, Wings, Song Slowly Song, and I Cant See You.
The two remaining songs are the Buckley original My Love Is For You and the Beckett/Buckley collaboration Long Tide (Rhino).

To avoid discussions about the quality of CD2 like being this a real CDA source or not, Rhino wrote in the Booklet that the tapes were 40 years stored somewhere and not under the best conditions so this may influence the quality of the music recorded but these are unique recordings for sure.

So much has already been written in an attempt to describe the music Trees play, and Trees themselves hope that they have now reached a degree of originality that defies the usual terms such as 'folk orientated rock.'Melody Maker writes of them, 'Their depth of character causes the group concern over categories to the extent where they are cautiously rejecting the label of 'folk rock' while still clinging to the stable foundation of traditional material.
Much of this is misunderstood in the hands of more staid folk figures, and it can only be hoped that Trees' visually contemporary image will encourage audiences to pay more attention to the lyrics'. All one can do now is give a brief synopsis of Trees' past, tell you what they are doing at the moment and give you a quick glimpse of their future.
Bias Boshell (bass guitar and keyboard), Unwin Brown (drums), Barry Clarke (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, dulcimer and mandolin), David Costa (Electric 12 string, acoustic guitar, dulcimer, and mandolin), and Celia Humphris (vocals) have always attracted a great deal of favourable attention from the press, in fact when they first formed, well before 'The Garden Of Jane Delawney' (their first album) was released they had a very good feature in Zigzag. Since then Trees have received a far wider press coverage, with features and interviews in all the leading music and 'underground' press, and also The Express, The Mail and The Times.
Despite all these good words being written about Trees, things haven't always been easy for them, not that they are for any new group, but they seem to have had more than their fair share of bad luck... Even when they first started playing together, their first public performance had to be cancelled because their van broke down 20 miles away from the gig, and David and Barry had to stay in the van all night to guard what little equipment they had.
However, things gradually improved, and Trees got some support bookings at the larger universities and colleges, and at the beginning of 1970 topped the bill for the first time at a folk concert put on by the St. Ives Art Festival, also receiving their first standing ovation.The next major step forward in Trees' career was a bottom of the bill appearance at Queen Elizabeth Hall, appearing with Matthews' Southern Comfort in their first London concert.
Although Trees playing time allowed them to do only four numbers, their performance brought them more acclaim than anything they had done to date, as most of the trade press were there. Karl Dallas, a leading expert on their type of music wrote of them 'Trees have a beautiful girl as lead singer, a lively lass who bends her rich voice round the complexities of folk ballads with increasing assurance, a hard rock guitarist and a folk-club-trained acoustic man, a good bass guitarist and a tasteful drummer... Trees are significant for a number of reasons.
First, because in the persons of its three guitar-players it is introducing three virtually unknown artists on to the scene - artists who have an individual brilliance and collective rapport that is nothing less than phenomenal'.Trees received more and more bookings, and luck seemed to be going their way, but they were to suffer another major setback. In the autumn of last year they had all their equipment stolen, and spent all the money they had earned, plus a lot more on some second-hand equipment, and carried on playing the best they could, for even their van was falling to bits.
They have suffered the repercussions of this theft until very recently when they thought they had secured a reliable financial backer to a) expand the band, and b) buy new equipment. Unfortunately the backer pulled out in the middle of the university term, and Trees had to cancel some of their most precious gigs until the money was found to buy more instruments.Don't think that this affected them as a group, for they have always been very close as people. Beat Instrumental sums them up very well: 'Trees are a tightly-knit group.
They weren't assembled by some Svengali manager hoping to amass quick wealth, but had all been friends for some time when, all having musical experience and ambitions, they decided on becoming a band... The closeness also shows in the music. Trees songs are meticulously and precisely arranged, yet such is the sympathy between them that the whole thing seems as easy as pie. Anyone attempting to jam with them would be left helpless'.Fast and furious rumours have been circulating that Trees are breaking up.However, having come to a very amicable financial agreement with CBS they are now re-equipped, with more enthusiasm than ever, and back on the road again.
